Microsoft Vista by design consumes a lot of computer resources which in turn slows performance. Also, software firewalls can add time to initial startup perfomance because of file scanning for viruses. It takes approx. 5 minutes for my computer running Vista to time-in on my network and it has a quadcore processor in it. Best thing I could suggest is keep your internet file storage to a minimum with regular disk checks and defragmentation for speedier performance.

Also, the more data and programs that you have stored and running on startup degrades overall system performance at startup. Review your msconfig file and see how many programs are enabled at startup.
