Unidentified Network Problem at College

Hi folks,

I've been having a problem connecting to the network at my college. The connection will be excellent, but the network will be unidentified. I've been at the college for over three years now with the same computer. When I started at the college, I would get the problem occasionally, but since I have started grad school it is becoming progressively worse. I will be browsing then the network will just drop. I will get the yellow triangle and black exclamation point over the connection strength bars. I have tried researching this problem, but everybody that I have found having a similar problem is having it at their home. My problem only occurs at school. It never happens on my home network. Also, no other PCs are having this problem like I am at my grad school.

Some background info on my PC:

I am running windows 7 on a dell inspiron 15r.

The network adapter is a Intel(R) Centrino(R)-N 2230 I believe.

Thanks in advance!

UTKVols,

I'm guessing that your system is trying to connect to a nearby unidentified network.

Start, control panel, network and sharing center, click on your connection, wireless properties

Make sure your settings match mine.

What is a Dell Service Tag and how do I locate it?

RE: Unidentified Network Problem at College

Thank you for the reply. Before I had "Connect Automatically..." and "Connect even..." checked. My settings are like yours now, but I have had a problem since. I walked from a classroom to the library with my PC on and the unidentified network problem persisted again. Troubleshooting only works about half the time. Otherwise, I have to restart my PC.

UTKVols,

Can you do a screenshot of the network and sharing center?

I also do these tweaks...

Start, control panel, device manager.

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
