Very Poor Download Speed Through Wireless

Hi

I have a problem with download speed in a Studio 1558, Windows 7, with a DELL wireless WLAN 1397

The "weird" thing is that when i am connected to the router through a cable the download speed is about 150 Kb/s, but when i'm through wireless the speed reaches at most 50-60 Kb/s

I tried with another laptop and the download through wireless is almost the same than with cable

I would appreciate so much any help

Problems with the rate of data transfer are difficult to resolve as there could be a number of causes.  Have you tried moving the computer closer to the router to increase signal strength?  If that has not helped you may be having troubles with the maximum transfer unit size.  This was once a common problem as people transitioned to broadband connections that used a large mtu from dial-up connections that used a relatively small mtu.  For most efficient transfer you need the mtu to be as large as possible but below the size that causes your equipment to split the packets into fragments.

Check this to learn about mtu:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_transmission_unit

If you are comfortable editing the Windows registry you can check this out:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314053/.  Note that this article applies to Windows XP.  You can research this yourself by searching for "set mtu in (your OS)" at support.microsoft.com.  You need to take note that there are usually settings that allow Windows to detect the optimum mtu, so you might wish to try that setting before typing arbitrary numbers.
