Vostro 470: Unrecognized Bluetooth Devices

Hi,

Vostro 470, Windows 7 64 bit

I have 2 unrecognized Bluetooth devices in Device Manager under Other devices:

Both devices listed as Bluetooth Peripheral Device

Both devices have this error: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

Hardware ID for device #1 is:
BTHENUM\{453994d5-d58b-96f9-6616-b37f586ba2ec}_VID&00010075_PID&0100
BTHENUM\{453994d5-d58b-96f9-6616-b37f586ba2ec}_LOCALMFG&0045

Hardware ID for device #2 is:
BTHENUM\{936da01f-9abd-4d9d-80c7-02af85c822a8}_VID&00010075_PID&0100
BTHENUM\{936da01f-9abd-4d9d-80c7-02af85c822a8}_LOCALMFG&0045

I have installed the latest available driver for my system from support.dell.com:
Dell Wireless 1703 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth Driver
Version 9.2.0.514, A00
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=C54GH

Windows Update cannot find the drivers either.

What are these devices, and can anyone help me find the correct drivers?

Anybody know how to decipher a BTHENUM?

Thanks

Try the newer driver version 10.0.0.341:

Hi,

No, I'm sorry, this is not the correct driver.

It clearly states it's for Dell Wireless 1802/1707/1601/1506.

As I wrote, I have Dell Wireless 1703.

Dell mention the driver as compatible for the Dell Wireless 1802/1707/1601/1506 but in reality it covers all the Dell Wireless Cards made by Atheros. If you open the setup information file of the extracted driver in notepad you'll see the supported Hardware IDs. Here is the Dell Wireless 1703 card...

Well that must be a mistake, because when I install this driver, I now have 9 unrecognized Bluetooth Peripheral Devices instead of just 2. This is an improvement?

RE: Vostro 470: Unrecognized Bluetooth Devices

Hi danmb,

Philip is correct on trying the newer driver and it having version 1703 (there are other threads showing this), but unfortunately it sounds like something else went wrong. Have you tried uninstalling and deleting those drivers (even the ones installed correctly like the 1703 card)? And then after this resetting the system and trying to install the new driver again? It might also find the wifi card and bluetooth automatically and if it does, you might be able to skip this last step, so make sure to check device manager first before installing the driver again.

Prior to removing the wifi driver make sure you have the new driver ready (just in case you're using wifi to connect to the internet), or you might need to have the system wired.

Another option is to try having drivers detected automatically for your system here: http://dell.to/2cS8jfo

If none of this works, please direct message me your service tag (do not post it in the thread), and also please report back on what you find.

Also, prior to having this issue with the card, were you reinstalling the OS and then having trouble with the driver or using a bluetooth device and then the card stopped working (having you notice this)? I just wanted to make sure we didn't miss anything.

Best regards,

Brad

RE: Vostro 470: Unrecognized Bluetooth Devices

Brad and Philip,

Thank you for your replies.

To answer your last question first, when I bought this system in 2012 I really didn’t have a need for it to be wireless, the router is right there. The PC is still wired. I’m still using the original Dell installed Win 7 Pro O/S, with updates.

Recently I started looking around for wireless headphones. I was just about to order them, but first, I wanted to make sure Bluetooth was working. Then I noticed the 2 unrecognized Bluetooth devices. Before it didn’t matter, now it does. So I set about trying to fix that. And nothing I’ve tried has worked.

Back to the driver. I did a complete uninstall of the 1703 driver, as follows:

- PNPUTIL, enumerated all drivers to a textfile with pnputil –e, edited that into a command file that did pnputil –f –d on anything that said “Atheros”, 11 devices in all

- Device Manager, uninstall anything that said Bluetooth.

- Rebooted

- Installed the driver from downloads.dell.com/.../Network_Driver_WF2N2_WN32_10.0.0.341_A05.EXE

It installed OK. Rebooted again.

Now I am back to the same 2 unrecognized Bluetooth devices as the original driver.

Both devices listed as Bluetooth Peripheral Device

Both devices have this error: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

Hardware ID for device #1 is:
BTHENUM\{453994d5-d58b-96f9-6616-b37f586ba2ec}_VID&00010075_PID&0100
BTHENUM\{453994d5-d58b-96f9-6616-b37f586ba2ec}_LOCALMFG&0045

Hardware ID for device #2 is:
BTHENUM\{936da01f-9abd-4d9d-80c7-02af85c822a8}_VID&00010075_PID&0100
BTHENUM\{936da01f-9abd-4d9d-80c7-02af85c822a8}_LOCALMFG&0045

I know how to look up a device by its PCI ID, but not a BTHENUM. How do you parse this?

Any why isn't the latest 1703 driver listed together with all the other available drivers for the Vostro 470?

Thanks.
