This is my first experience with routers and wireless. I installed a Linksys WRT54G2 router with apparent ease, connecting it to my DSL modem and desktop PC. With that wired connection I'm able to access the Internet. I set up a connection using my Vostro 1510 and its wireless utility and it shows a strong signal but no connection. One icon in the notification area shows "Status: Authenticating" and another indicates "acquiring network address". When I wire the Vostro to the router, I'm able to connect. I don't want to have to spend the next month researching wireless networking to make this thing work. Is there something obvious I should be looking at to resolve this problem?
I reinstalled the router and used a security key other than the one randomly selected by the installation wizard. I don't know if that made a difference but now I'm able to make a wireless Internet connection with the Vostro. I'll see what happens from here.
