WiFi not working

I have a Dell 1545 Laptop that quit working without a cable connection to the computer. My computer has a model wireless card 1397. I cannot access the Utility Card. I get message indicating that a "internal configuration is inconsistent...and to restart.  I have tried most of the suggestions I found on the Internet, but no joy. Restarting makes no change---I still get the same message.  Utilizing network interview program, it indicates that the card is 'non-operational.'  When I check through control panel...system...device manager  I am told that the card is working (no yellow mark is seen). I seem to think that it is likely a software issue, perhaps with some "update" gone crazy.  Can anyone help?

What virus program and firewall are you using?

Not sure if your Virus program will be a problem with your connection. You may want to chek the firewall settings, just to be sure.

 

When you installed Windows 8 Pro 32-bit, did you install the drivers in the correct order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order Dell System Software, then the chipset drivers and follow the order or the rest of the drivers will fail to install. Since there are not Windows 8 32-bit drivers, try the Windows 7 32-bit drivers in the Windows 7 Compatibility mode

 

Go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number, then select your operating system. Under Network, download and install the latest drivers.

Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.


Click on Advanced, look for Antenna Diversity, Change it from Auto to Aux.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

When I installed Windows 8, the program did all the installation---I did nothing special.

When I check the driver on the Dell site, it indicates that it is  5.10.38.26 (driver A23). The one on the computer is driver date 3/13/12, 5.100.245.20

Like you said, it does not show a special driver for windows 8, 32 bit.

Do I want to install the windows 7 driver (Vista)?

I hope this can be done. These are goint to be the Vista 32-bit drivers. Try installing the Vista 32-bit drivers in the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode

 

Try in this exact order...

 

Dell System Software, v.6.5.0, A05

 

Intel GM45 Express Chipset Family, v.8.7.0.1007, A00


Realtek RTS5158E Card Reader, v.6.0.6000.20125, A04

Then download and install...

Marvell 88E80XX 10/100 Ethernet Controller, v.10.63.3.3, A00

 

Dell
Wireless WLAN 1397 Half MiniCard (4312bg), Wireless WLAN 1510 Half
MiniCard (4322), Dell Wireless 1397, 1510 Half MiniCard, v.5.10.38.26
(Driver), A23


 

Then download and install Dell QuickSet, v.9.6.21, A07

 

All these drivers MUST be installed in the Vista (I'd try Vista SP2) Compatibility mode

 

Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled

I have the first three drivers setup in the Dell Download manager (Dell System, Intel GM45, Realtek RT.....)  I cant seem to find the files to right click on to get compatibility mode operational. Can you suggest where I need to go from here?

Do not use the Dell Download Manager. Use your browser and install them in the correct order. How to by-pass the Dell Download Manager

I got the files downloaded in the browser and selected in the Vista SVC pk 2 selected. When I try and run it I get the following messages:

MS Windows operating service pack is not supported.  Please update to latest windows service pack

Now what?

Tried the vista compatibility mode, but system would not allow it.  Device manager shows everything is AOK.  I ran the Dell Diagnostic Program and it showed no hardware problems.  Any ideas?

Sorry for the delay, work.

Try restarting the computer in the safe mode with networking and see if the adapter works. If it doesn't, then try the procedure below and tell me what happens.

Is your computer under warranty?

 

1.       Download the latest wireless driver for the card and save it on the desktop.

 

2.       Shut the system down and physically remove the wireless card.

 

3.       Boot to the bios and reset the bios to defaults, save changes and boot to windows.  Double check device manager and remove any remaining wireless drivers and shut the system down.

 

4.       Reseat the wireless card. (If out of warranty, Page 38 in the Dell Inspiron 1545 Service Manual)

 

5.       Boot back to Windows and install the downloaded driver. Reboot and test the wireless card.

I don't feel comfortable with removing parts, boards, etc to remove the WiFi card. I do understand what you want to do, but I don't think I am up to it.

That is fine. Is your system under warranty? If it's under warranty, contact Dell Tech Support.

 

Did you replace the hard drive or just try installing the operating system?

 

You triend this without your virus program?

 

The other thread about the 1397 adapter, is that the same system?

 

Go to device manager, click on the problem adapter, select Hardware ID from the drop down menu and post that number back here
