Wifi disconnecting after updating to win 8.1

Hello everyone, 

My brother just recently updated to windows 8.1, and now he constantly disconnects from his home wifi when playing online games. He never had this problem on windows 8. The signal may come back in a minute or 2, or if he manually clicks reconnect. He has a windows 8.1 alienware 18 laptop purchased in april, with a broadcom network adapter 802.11ac and a DPC3825 Cisco router.  We’ve updated the drivers already. Have other clients here came across this same problem? It appears rather frequently in google searches, but I haven’t actually seen a fix. Has anyone been able to fix it?
