XPS L501X no internet connectivity

Jump to solution

Hello all.

I can not connect to the internet either by WiFi or ethernet connection on my XPS L501X 64bit running Windows 7. This problem suddenly occurred after a failed microsoft update. The Action Centre lists a number of problems including;

Host Process for Windows Services........................................Windows Update installation problem

Microsoft Malware Protection Command Line Utility (3).......Mp Telemetry

Microsoft Management Console...............................................Stopped working

Network Diagnostics Framework (4).......................................Unable to diagnose/repair problems

Windows Wireless Lan 802.11 Extensibility Framework....Stopped working

I can copy the technical details to Notepad and send them if this would be useful in determining the problem and finding a solution.

Of course, with no internet connection, I have been unable to report the problems, check for solutions or run any online diagnostics and am using another laptop to communicate.

I have downloaded and installed the latest WiFi adaptor (Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000) and driver to no avail. I used the Intel updater wizard thingy which uninstalled the old adaptor and installed the new one. I have not updated the Realtec PCIe GBE Family Controller driver, but when I click on update driver, it indicates the the latest driver is installed. All devices are listed as working properly.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

stalkee,

Download the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300, Centrino Advanced-N 6200, Centrino Wireless-N 1000, v.13.2.1.5, A01 drivers and save them to your desktop.

Make a system rstore point.

Start, control panel, device manager, right click on Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN, left click uninstall. Tell it to remove the drivers and software.

Restart your computer.

When you log back in, the new hardware wizard will try to install the drivers but fail. Install the drivers saved to your desktop.

Try to connect. What happens?

If you cannot connect, go to a hotspot in your area and try to connect. Can you connect?

stalkee,

Download the Realtek RTL8111EL, v.7.023.0623.2010, A01 and save them to your desktop.

Make a system restore point.

Start, control panel, device manager, network adapters, right click on Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, left click uninstall.

Restart the computer.

The new hardware wizard will try to install the adapter. Install the drivers you saved to your desktop.

You can do the power management on everything in the device manager except the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter(s) The box must be checked or they go missing.

Hi stalkee,

Let me know the operating system installed on the system.

Meanwhile, perform a full virus scan on the system to remove any virus that may have infected the system.

Thanks & Regards

Hi Manshu S,

Thanks for the swift response.

The os is Windows 7.

I am running a scan using avast! which is 86% completed without any infected files so far.

All the best

Hi stalkee,

Thank you for the reply.

If the virus scan completes without detecting any virus, I would suggest you to perform system restore for the date the system was working properly using the link mentioned below:

http://dell.to/VRG2ad

NOTE: System Restore will remove the applications installed after the restore point but will not remove any files.

Thanks & Regards

Hi Manshu,

Thanks for your reply.

The scan completed with no virus detected, however, I can't get a System Restore to work. It keeps coming up with the same message:-

System restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.

Details;

System Restore could not access a file. This is probably because an anti-virus program is running. Temporarily disable your anti-virus program and retry System Restore.

An unspecified error occurred during System Restore.  (0x80070005)

I turned off my anti-virus and tied again....... same message so I disabled ZoneAlarm firewall and tried again but still got same message.

I did try a System Restore when problem first arose on 16th April to exactly the same result.

What now?

All the best.

Hi stalkee,

Please check if the internet works in safe mode with networking. Turn on the system and tap F8 key for advance boot options. Select Safe Mode with networking. Hit enter and check if the internet works.

If the internet does not work, please check if the IP address is assigned to the computer.

Click Start > type cmd and hit enter. On the command prompt, type ipconfig.

Let me know the ip address.

Also, refer to the link mentioned below which may help you fix this issue:

Hi Manshu S,

No internet in safe mode with networking.

IPv4 Address.................: 192.168.56.1

I don't have Mcafee. Are you suggesting I download McAfee Standalone Tool and run that on my XPS to fix the problem?

Thanks and all the best.

stalkee,

Please continue with

What virus program are you using?

Try uninstalling Zone Alarm, then restart your computer.

Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.
