XPS1710 connects to wired gigabit router @ 100mbps? No option to override?
I noticed in my most recent battle to figure out my internet troubles that my XPS 1710 with broadcom 57XX gigabit card does not connect to my gigabit router at 1000mbps, but rather only 100mpbs. Checking the configuration, i noticed there is a setting to override the speed with options of 10HD, 10FD, 100HD, and 100FD, but nothing for 1000mbps.
I am running a gigabit NAS and want to make sure im getting the best possible speeds, and 100Mpbs just wont cut it - gigabit was the whole reason I bought the NAS, Router...
Am I missing something? I installed the "newest" driver for it (driver from 07 on dells site) and still i only connect @ 100mpbs

i tried installing the default driver from Dell, and resetting defaults, but theres nothing I can do to connect @ 1000mbps
Anything else I can try? There are 2 drviers listed when i update the driver, one is the 57XX the other is another gigabit driver, and that one allows more options, but still nothing about 1000mbps...
Im thinking it might be an MTU issue with jumbo frames (the router is set to 9000kb jumbo frame support) however I beelive the MTU on the laptop is set to 15000 or something, ill check later!

Try installing the latest driver from broadcom's site it's version 11.7.2.0. I recently installed it on my Precision M90 and it seems O.K.

Turn off jumbo frames on all your equipment until you get it working. Personally, I would turn them off forever as they may cause serious issues with internet access (and with any equipment on your local LAN that does not support them). Jumbo frames rarely increase speed -- though they do save on CPU cycles.
Lastly, if you go for jumbo frames or want better LAN performance in general, turn off the ICS/firewall service. Make sure all software firewalls are disabled. See, for example, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842264
