XPS8300 wifi disconnects when playing games

Hi Everyone

I am in desperate need of assistance and despite having purchased the system for only 2 weeks, Dell Online is saying my desktop is out of warranty and I cannot lodge and email service request.

I have noticed with my XPS8300 then when playing games (not online) or when streaming videos, the wireless NIC will either disconnect (and refuse to reconnect even though it can see the network) or remains connected but does not allow any traffic to flow. The wireless NIC returns to normal roughly a minute afer I have exited / closed a game.

If I try to run online games (i.e. COD Black Ops), I constantly get the "Connection Interrupted" error message despite the wireless NIC showing full connection.

To test whether if it's the room, I brought in my laptop and it did not have the same issue. Therefore, I am thinking it could be the half-mini wireless NIC.

I have tried looking everywhere but nobody seems to have experienced this or have a solution. Dell just told me to reinstall the drivers, which I've done but to no avail.

Please help.

Thank you.

Re: XPS8300 wifi disconnects when playing games

Pwang88,

First, go to the above post and click on the green pencil. Remove the product id.

I see that Windows was recently installed. Is this a new computer or did you recently install Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit?

Re: XPS8300 wifi disconnects when playing games

Thanks for that pickup PudgyOne. This is a new computer from Dell purchased 2 weeks ago.

I'm thinkin it may be the distance to the wireless router but that doesn't explain why it disconnects or doesn't allow traffic through only when playing games. Other computers in the room work fine so I'm thinking it may be a wireless NIC issue.

Pwang88,

If you want to check the antenna wires, on the wireless adapter, CLICK HERE.

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

I would contact Dell Tech Support in your area. The computer is under warranty.

Re: XPS8300 wifi disconnects when playing games

I think I've found the solution. While the adapter was showing full reception, its position was allowing interference to disturb the wireless signals when the video adapter fan was running. I have moved the entire desktop and now it works without any disruptions.

Imagine that. The wonders of the wireless network.
