driver download

okay, I reformatted a dell dimension 3100.  XP picked up everything but the network adapter.  I need to download the network adapter driver to my other computer.  When I try to use this site it just keeps trying to scan my lap top - which is not the computer with the problem!!!!

Can't you just download a driver anymore?  I would love to have this website scan the computer I am trying to work on but I don't have internet because I don't have the right driver for the network card.

Re: driver download

tif,

The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first, then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.

emoticon.Idea.title Hint emoticon.Idea.title When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.

Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card

QuickSet(Laptop only)

Re: driver download

Okay... so you are saying, download and install the driver for the Dell 3100 onto my Inspiron e1505, then  copy it to a flash drive and then copy it onto the 3100?

In the olden days you could just download a .zip file that can be moved without installing it.

thanks

Re: driver download

tif,

Yes, that's what I'm saying. you need to put them on a flash drive, cd or DVD. I am also saying they need to be installed in  a certain order.

The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first, then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

Re: driver download

I guess where I am getting frustrated is with the fact that in order to download the first driver you recommended, I have to install some kind of Frame network thing.  Then the download just happens and never asks where to put the file.  So now I guess I will have to search for it in order to move it to the flash - isn't there anyway to get it to go straigh to the flash?
