Dell N3024 hostname/snmp question
Hello,
I've been working with these switches and have a question I'd love some input on.
My inventory mgmt automatically polls our network equipment for tracking purposes, and within the switch configs, we are forced to set the hostname using "_" if we wish to delineate a location within the hostname. Is there any way to be able to use "." rather than the underscores, as the underscore conflicts with our tracking software making things difficult to find.
Thanks,
Jeff

You are correct. I am using firmware version 6.2.7.2, which is the latest. I just looked in the Release Notes for this (6.2.7.2) release and it says support for a period in the hostname was added in 6.2.1.6...
Release 6.2.1.6
Added support for character ‘.’ (period) in the hostname

Hi Jeff,
You should be able to use the period multiple times in your hostname. Here's an example. From the config mode the command is...
console(config)#hostname n3024.stlous.mo.lab
n3024.stlous.mo.lab(console)#exit
n3024.stlous.mo.lab#
Hope this helps.

Yeah, it would appear that on the newer firmware (some of the switches I've tested on were running 6.1.2.4).
Thanks for confirming!
