Dell Shipping Claims Dishonest
Our family ordered two Dell laptops on Black Friday with an expected ship date of 3-5 days. We have been checking the status online and the expected ship date is now 12/31. Don't believe Dell's claims that you will receive products before Christmas! We even called customer support and no one was able to help us or even throw in something for free.

Shipping dates are tentative.
Dell has more on the shipping delays here:

I am not defending Dell here. They state there has been a much larger than anticipated number of orders, hence a large backorder of laptops, all of which are manufactured and assembled overseas, then shipped to the US for final packaging and shipping to the customer. You will have to decide if you wish to wait it out or cancel. Sorry about that.

Maybe Dell should consider removing all of their claims of 48 hour shipping from their website then.

I have the same situation. As far as dell is concerned, my order has been shipped and the estimated delivery date has come and gone. The Fed Ex tracking says that it will be delivered tomorrow but doesnt show movement on the package. I contacted Fed Ex and they said to contact the shipper. The shipper (Dell) is offering no help and tells me to contact Fed Ex. Im beginning to wonder if I will ever get this system. Obviously, Dell dopesnt understand that Black Friday purchases are generally meant as holiday gifts. Now I have to show up for dinner at my mother-in-law's empty handed....great. I will never order from Dell again. Stick to sites like www.tigerdirect.com. They ship SUPER fast and have American call centers that will actually help you find a solution to the problem instead of just transfering your call around the globe. Furthermore, I will encourage all of my computer repair clients to never order from Dell and share some ofthese experiences with them. Thank you Dell for ensuring that you will permanently lose bussiness from me. And if anyone is reading this that hasnt ordered a system yet, BUY FROM SOMEONE ELSE.

We're talking about two different things here. Dell offers "Fast Track" 48 hour delivery on some more basic systems and for that it would be reasonable to expect the system to arrive at your door within 48 hours of ordering if ordered per these terms: "delivered in 48 hours if order placed by 5:59 PM CT Sun - Wed".
On the other hand, for all other systems, 3-5 day shipping or two day shipping or even overnight shipping doesn't mean you will receive your computer in that time. That is clearly the delivery time once the unit is placed in the hands of the delivery service. If the unit is not yet built it will of course take assembly time, which can be a few days to a few weeks or longer, if there are parts shortages.
Unless you ordered one of the exact Fast Track models offered, I'm afraid you have to wait it out or cancel.
