Long Wait for Studio XPS [435MT]?
I ordered the new Dell Studio XPS on 11/21/2008 and was notified that it would almost take a month for me to get it (Est. Ship Date:12/17/2008 and Est. Delivery Date:12/22/2008-12/24/2008). I was wondering why it would take so long to get a desktop created? I wasn't expecting such a large delay when i was looking in the cart it said "Preliminary Ship Date: 12/7/2008" when i ordered it. The only thing i changed was the Security Suite that i wanted preloaded. Can someone share me their experiance with this? Does it come early sometimes or late sometimes?
UPDATE: Delivery date is a conservative estimation. My Studio XPS was shipped on 12/3/2008 beating the "Preliminary Ship Date" i recieved when i ordered it. Almost 18 days total for the process.

My order's still saying 12/18, but that's only a day later than folks who ordered theirs ten days earlier. My status does show "In Production" now when I click on it.
Hey please sign in and let us know how your system is out of the box if anyone out there has already got it!!!
My guess is that you release something, you start taking orders for it and THEN you start actually building some. :emotion-40:

Has anyone ordered the Studio 435MT with the base video card (ATI Radeon HD 3450)? Could someone check if the power supply has two 6 pin connectors (PCI-E 2.0)? And has anyone manually upgraded the video card to a HD 4870?
Thanks!

I just received mine yesterday and it's working great so far. The Dell 24" S2049W Flat Screen that came with it is great considering that it replaced the 22" CRT moniter i used before. The basic setup of the computer was easy, just the usuall Windows Updating that was needed and my Security Suite to register/update. The keyboard is clean looking but im having a hard time playing shooters with it. The mouse is decent considering that it has a button to switch dpi on-the-fly when you need to without requiring any software to be installed. The optical disk drive is LOUD when it's reading a disk, i haven't had the time to check how well it burns CD/DVD with the Roxio 10.2 software preinstalled on the computer. I really haven't had the chance to test the computer out on high load. I don't know how to check the tempurture of the CPU, but the GPU (ATI HD 4850) runs really hot (Latest Drivers allow fan control, but id rather let the computer decide for its self). Overall, its a great computer and a great buy. I expect a good long 4+ years on this computer, long enough for new technology to be released :)
TL;DR
Pros: fast, quiet@idle, No significant problems so far
Cons: Hot GPU @ idle and load, Loud Sometimes

I order Saturday Dec 06. I was quoted a ship date = Dec 15. I received email this morning that it shipped Dec 10, and Fed-Ex estimates delivery Friday Dec 12. In my neighborhood, that means around dinnertime. I believe that folks who order earlier had longer estimated times because production had not ramped up yet. It seems that production has ramped up, and perhaps they want to get as many sales completed for the holiday season as possible.

Is that the power supply you were talking about from Newegg or is it the one the other guy mentioned? I'm interested to find how it works out as in not interested in winning the race to frag my new MB first ... :emotion-2:
My system's not due in to me until 12/17 ... my boss says he thinks staying home that day to secure the new pc is a valid excuse ... heh heh.

Got mine last night at 1000PM from FEDEX. It took 14hrs from out for delivery, so I've been up all night. I have replaced the 500GB 7000RPM WD HDD with the 300GB 10000 WD HDD and added a WD My Book Home Edition 1TB external on the eSATA as my second drive. It really boots very quick. Not as quiet a I want it to be, it got a little hum with fan. I'm impressed so far. Like its size, now I don't have to put it on the floor like my heavy XPS 720. Let me know how the power upgrade goes with the Egghead PSU. I'm still waiting on the PC Power&Cooling 550 W PSU for Dells availability.

Good news..
Power supply upgrade went off without a hitch.. I swapped the PSU before I even turned it on.. Lots of extra cables to tuck away though.
It's doing updates now.. when that's done I'll uninstall the ATI software and drop the GTX280 in..
More to come :)

All done! 19227 3dmarks on the first run.. I think we can do better :)
There's no way to get another hard drive in there with a card this size, but it does fit. I'm a little worried about temps though and trying to find something to keep an eye on it.
