Problems with connection!
Hello,
I am back for the moment. I finally got the Studio XPS 435MT after ordering it March 3rd. and getting it April 21st. It was working great. I have to get use to Windows Vista.
I installed some games for Grandson (11yrs. ). Games worked great. I am trying to remember what went wrong first. So here goes. Dell helped me install the new Printer V505. It worked ok for awhile and then I had to call for help again with the printer because it would not print. Mother's Day this Dell Tech uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it and it worked great. He said something about a corrupt file was causing the problem.
Then I had Dell set up File Sharing because I have another Dell Desktop and a Toshiba Laptop which are wireless. Everything seemed ok.
Then the problem with the connection to the Internet. I would turn on Computer (XPS) and see the Red X on the two computers and in about 10 minutes the connection would appear without me doing anything. The other two computers had an connection. So of course Dell blamed Linksys, with the Router that Studio is hooked up to. Then they blamed Comcast' Modem. We have tried everything, switching cables. Everytime I call each one wants to do things like unintall the Virus Program but that wasn't causing the problem. No one knew how to fix the problem with the connection. It would come on by itself in about 10 minutes. But I didn't like that. I paid good money for this computer and I wanted it fixed.
So one tech man said to do a PC restore. I was at the point I agreed because we weren't getting anywhere. So he did it. It didn't take long. They say it comes back just like it did from the factory. But alot of what was on the computer when I got it were gone. But anyway the connection worked until yesterday when a Dell Tech installed the Printer. He had to install drivers and then he got it read by checking Printer Sharing for when I would have Dell help me with Sharing Program. He also ran into a problem which he said that the USB port in back on computer wasn't letting the USB work right. ?????......
That is when the problem came back. So now I have no printer and the connection is working as it should. I want to wait a few days before installing the Printer because I have been on the phone talking to Dell for hours and hours. Trust me Dell is going to install it not me.
Could someone here in this Forum have any suggestions about two things please. First, would you know what might be causing the connection problem? Next have any ideas about what the PC Restore is all about. I want this computer to run as it should. Oh one other thing. One tech man said that I should have it set to 32 Bit instead of 64 Bit. Does anyone believe that one?
Thanks!

Gigee,
I have a tweak for the wireless card that may help you. I also recommend that you use the settings in your wireless router listed below so eveything works better.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager). Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Before proceeding, please make sure the computer has all the Windows Updates, especially the net framework, which is needed for many programs to run. Also make sure you have the latest Java.
Disconnect the printer. Un-install the printer.
Restart your computer.
Download the proper drivers.
XP Drivers
Vista 32-bit Drivers
Vista 64-bit Drivers
All other drivers
If wireless, fix your network first.
Update the firmware in your wireless router. Manufacturer's website, make & Model needed.
Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)
Use WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(WPA Personal). Most wireless devices work best with this type of security.
Mixed b and g mode(n if available)
Use channels 1, 6 or 11. Most devices work better on these channels. (I use channel 11)
Save and exit. Power everything off for 30 seconds. Power everything back on, wait 30 seconds, now try to connect.
How Do I Connect a Dell™ Wireless Printer to a Wireless Network
Choose your printer. Beneath your printer, select your operating system. You'll be redirected to another page. Then click on show all steps. It will walk you through the installation process.
