Restoring factory image to a new hard drive on Dell Inspiron 1720

I have an Inspiron 1720 laptop that has a failing hard drive. I have purchased a replacement hard drive from Dell and would like to restore the Dell Factory Image located on the failing drive to the new hard drive if possible. (I was able to use that image to restore the failing hard drive six weeks ago to extend its life.)  Is there any way to do this to the new drive, or is the best approach to reload the new drive by restoring o/s (Vista), drivers and various applications from the individual CDs?

The Dell PC System Restore feature cannot be created, or downloaded, it is a factory installed feature only.

The only way to keep the restore feature, is to clone the entire drive it's install on, to the replacement hard drive.

You need to carry out a manual reinstall of Vista.

The procedures for a manual reinstall of Vista are HERE

Thanks, Bev.  That's what I thought but was hoping for a reprieve!
