dell photo 924 printer problem

I was printing my resume and the black ink wasn't printing clear, so I took it out and cleaned it.  When I put in back in the printer it wouldn't come on.  Message keeps popping up that the printer is busy and will start when printing is finished.  If not printing it tells me to go to the front control panel for a message?? what?????????????

I've tried to cancel everything possible, unpluged, logged off, turned everything off, took the ink cartridges out, replaced  to no avail.  When I plug in the power and usb to the printer you can hear it connect, but the printer won't come on and it won't let me print anything.  Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks
