7020 SFF, i5, GPU upgrade

Hi guys

I am a bit confused here, Just bought Dell Optiplex 7020 sff pc and was wondering if GPU upgrade is possible. I have searched for it via dell websites and fund support pages for Dell discrete gpu options. But there is no mention of PSU which is as standard 255W !? Both AMD cards have 40-50W power consumption. I just dont wanna burn or overheat this pc... at the end using integrated card vs AMD ? Watch videos, browsing casual web gaming for my daughter...

Can you please advice....gpu.PNG

Forget this options, they are garbage. I'm currently using a 1st gen Nvidia GT 1030 on the 16x slot and it works like a dream. What you need: a Low Profile graphics card that requires no external power. Meet these criteria and you are good to go.

Hello. I apologize if this thread is closed. I too have a Optiplex 7020 SFF. I see you have a 1050Ti. I would like either that or a AMD Radeon RX 560 LP. The problem I can forsee is the x16 PCI-E slot is too close to the power supply. This basically means you cannot use a dual slot card even though you have two slots free. So in your opinion what would be the best scenario? Dual slot GPU in the x4 PCI-E slot, or a single slot GPU in the x16 PCI-E slot?  Which one would provide the best performance for similiar spec cards? Thank you!

Thank you for the reply. I see the GT 1030 is a very viable option in the SFF for the optiplex. I was really hoping to get the best solution in reference to my previous post. Specifically about the x4 slot versus the x16 slot. In the video linked he installs the GT 1030 in the x4 PCI-E slot and not the x16 slot. I might as well get the 1050Ti or the Radeon RX 560 since those have to be installed in the x4 slot. Or perhap a single slot card in the x16 slot. I wonder which is the best quality.

Stock power supply on ANY 7020 DOES NOT SUPPORT 75W card.

So GT1030 is the ONLY option.

If you want to upgrade the 7020 you can use a Short 8.4 inch or less card and upgrade the power supply.

The optional 365w power supply is ONLY an option for the TOWER.

There are no options like that for Desktop or SFF.

The power supply is PROPRIETARY 8 pin vs 24 pin. T1700 has the same issue as the CAB359 works for that as well.

You would not be able to fit an evga 700BR inside the SFF case however and the video slot only allows single slot wide cards.

The tower can use EVGA 700BR power supply and Moddiy CAB359 adapter.

Then Short 1050 or 1060 like the Zotac Mini series can be used.

12 inch long 2 fan and 3 fan cards will not physically go into the case.

Any video cards that are not DELL versions require SECURE BOOT OFF in order to work.

Dell OEM full height but short PCI-E video cards work in the tower model.

1MPR3 AMD R9-360 2GB, 75w
24K8H Nvidia GTX 1050 2GB, 75w

The 24 pin power supply connector is 8 pins.  The proprietary power supply only has 12v rails.   The only way you get the evga power supply working is with a

n adapter from MODDIY CAB359.

There's also a guy who made his own adapter.

Thank you for the tower information. However I am still very confused as these videos show upgrades being done to the Small Form Factor.

Make sure the GT1030 is low profile and GDDR5

The DDR4 GT1030 is a horrible card.

OMG I have come along way since the 7020 SFF days. I went from putting my 7020 motherboard in a DT 790 case. That allowed me to put my Zotac GTX 1650 in the x16 slot and had more room and air flow. But of course that didn’t stop me from wanting more. So I bought an i7-4790 non K. Great! Well I received a Precision T1700. The everything went in that case with a Corsair CX550M psu. With the new power I wanted a new gpu. Then came the Zotac GTX 1070 mini which fit perfectly. Lastly I just bought a Inspiron 3670. So now I have an i5-8400, 32gb DDR4 HyperX Fury, Crucial P5 M.2 NVME 500gb boot drive, still have the PNY 500gb SSD for extra storage. My 1070 is still kicking same as the Corsair psu. Now I need to delete Mercari and EBay and I will be good to go! Lol.  Oh but the i7-9700 and Zotac GTX 1080 Ti Mini would go great in this Inspiron...yea I don’t have that kind of extra money. Lol.
