7050, BIOS update, USB keyboard lost

OptiPlex 7050, Win10 1809

After applying the latest BIOS upgrade this morning the Keyboard was not 'typing', the mouse was not affected.

I tried all the old tricks, none worked.

I have attached a PS2 keyboard and it's working fine.

Ideas?

Did you try a diff usb keyboard? Diff usb port? Maybe it is a problem with the usb port(s) That has been reported on some bios updates. Try some other usb hardware.

Great calls, Mary!

I would try a specific hunt for the latest drivers for your operating system and keyboard; since this is the only fault you report since your BIOS upgrade?

I too recently did a 'BIOS upgrade' and suddenly my 'fan' is reporting a 'fault'...

A replacement fan is on order now and I will try to retain the newer BIOS flash rather than downgrading back to a lesser... Downgrading BIOS back often confuses 'things' so I'll try a new fan for now... two days ago that DELL was temporally 'retired'...

Odd how everything (BIOS and fan-wise) was OK ~ until  that 'upgrade'?

I dunno.. film at 11:00

Yes, I tried a different keyboard, different port.... etc none worked.

Other USB devices were not affected.

Keyboard was working for the BIOS upgrade setup, and not working after the flash and reboot.

Puzzling! Did you try the usb KB on another computer? KB might have failed.

I am amazed you still have a PS2 KB!   :Huh?:

Do the same for the keyboard.

It will not be instantaneous.

the mouse is working fine, so do other USB attached devices.

the solution you offer is too much, as I have a workaround, with a PS2 keyboard.

thank you for offering a solution.

I have been doing this for a very long time, way before PS2 was used :) and I am a pack-rat, so there is 'stuff' lying around way past use by date.

the keyboard is fine, I attached it to a openSUSE box and there are no problems whatsoever.

as I said elsewhere, it worked fine before the BIOS flash, and did not on reboot, so, it's a compatibility issue in the last BIOS upgrade, which is puzzling as the keyboard is Dell's as well, as is the box.
