Used computer from 2009 still has the former owner's info. You could/should do a clean install of windows and make it your own. Or try this--

@Mary G None of these help, besides, I sent you a private message with the image of a Dell Optiplex 760 bootup screen with the text saying "Belongs to "HCPHES".

If you don't feel comfortable editing the Registry, just ignore the screen with the old owner name or company. It's harmless, just annoying. It's an old computer and you might expect other annoyances.

Does it say that on the Dell screen, or the Windows XP bootup screen.

Hi Ashton,

Updating the BIOS should get rid of the splash screen you are seeing and replace it with the standard Dell one.

I actually tried updating the BIOS on March 9th 2018, I actually still see the "Belongs to HCPHES" watermark in the Dell splash screen bootup.

That "Belongs to HCPHES" stuff on the bootup screen is probably a custom logo, but try sending a photo for proof.

If you can't remove it by flashing the BIOS then there is no practical way for you to get rid of it I'm afraid.

Harris County Public Education System is in the Owner ASSET TAG of the Bios. This is not stored in the Flash Bios its stored in the I2C nvram chip.

Updating the bios or clearing cmos will not clear this.

Newer systems in the 760  series do this in BIOS NVRAM.  That's why later bios allow changing the tag 1 time only if its blank.  No utility just typing it in at the cmos level.  DCCU There is no panacea one size fits all.

The dos based Service Tag utility ASSET209.COM is for very old units and wont work.

DCCU 3.XXX is required for the 760 etc.

DCCU it can adjust the owner tag but NOT the service tag.

Requires XP and Internet explorer 8.

There was support for this but its not free.  The software as well as that system are END OF LIFE   END OF SUPPORT.

There isn't a remove only replace with a different screen aka  blank then save.

The DCCU runs a local server via Internet explorer to change this.

Only the Owner Field can be changed the Service tag cannot be modified.

Once the software is installed you access it via

So I dug up a 760 to see. The asset 209 utility works even though the 760 is not specifically listed.

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=85WWG

https://downloads.dell.com/utility/R109071.exe

This file makes a dos floppy with the utility

 Usage:
ASSET new_asset_tag Specify new asset tag
ASSET /d Delete asset tag
ASSET /o new_owner_tag Specify new owner tag (if applicable)
ASSET_209 /o /d Delete owner tag (if applicable)
ASSET /? This help screen
