GPU for my 990 MT. Compatible with freesync and 1440p monitor, not nvidia

I'd like to upgrade my gpu along with the PSU most likely. To work with an LG 32gk650FB monitor (1440p, 144hz, freesync, display port). On my 990 MT i5 2400 ( may also upgrade to i7 2600), 16gb ram, 500SSD

I plan on dual booting windows 10 and Linux and I've heard nvidia cards can be problematic with linux, so i'm looking towards AMD.

I was about to get an rx560 4g aero itx or rx 580 8g v1, but  I was reading here that the 990 doesn't like R series cards?

So what GPU card and PSU do y'all recommend?

Main uses of the computer will be productivity, some video and photo editing, and light gaming Fortnite, Rocket league, indy steam games, emulators.
