Maximum RAM on Optiplex 760

According to the Dell published specs, 4GB is maximum.

From the Intel Q43 specs:

Dual-channel DDR3 memory support
Delivers up to 17 GB/s (DDR3 1066 dual 8.5 GB/s) of bandwidth and 8 GB maximum supported memory size for faster system responsiveness and support of 64-bit computing.

What I reported is the published Dell Spec's.   May or may not accept more memory.  Dell sometimes does custom implementation of the Intel spec for a chipset.

If the system and OS is 64 bits, it isn't a architectural reason to have a limit of memory to 4 or 8 GB. In theory, it can address 16 Exabytes of RAM. In a older another post, was said that the limit was 4GB, and my optiplex 760 has 8GB working fine. Practical tests are subject to mistakes. Maybe a bios question. My bios is A16, and i didn't found any documentation about it. 

I want listen a Dell specialist, please...

No, memory maximum limits are a function of the chipset (not the operating system, which you seem to be confused with), and according to Intel, the company that produced your particular chipset, you will not be able to go over 8GB of DDR3.

That is a physical limit, and as posted above, Dell often uses "stripped-down" chipset revisions with lowered specifications, which is why 4GB was posted from the user manual specs.

Yes and No. 

With Bios revision (A16) a Dell Optiplex 760 will absolutely accept 16gb of memory and it will like it.  However, and this is important, the 760 is keyed to only accept DDR2 NON-ECC unbuffered DIMMS.  You won't be able to put DDR3 in there, only DDR2.

I've set up 760's with 4x4gb of DDR2 on bios A16 many times. I have yet to try 2x8gb or 4x8gb configurations but can absolutely attest to the fact that a 760 will run 4x4gb of DDR2 memory. 

(Whatever you do don't pay 99$ for it).

Solarwinds, I have followed what you said. And yet it does not work. What am I doing wrong? Bios A16, 4x4 16GB non-ECC DDR2. All it does is Beep.  So my assumption is, that it does not recognize it.

4 Gig modules do exist.  HOWEVER they are not worth buying.

High density ram is NEVER working ANY Size ANY speed.
