OptiPlex 9020 core i7 4790 for Gaming

I was talking about biggest of them, the MID-TOWER. Why are you saying it can not run Windows 10? I'm pretty sure it can run Win10 without any problems. Also the size is quite enough to install 1650 video card in it, and this card does not require an additional 6pin power.

One of our contributors seems down and out about Optiplex's and just states problems, but no solutions.  And, if people are still running Win7, they can use their own anti-virus security software.

Graphic card and processor will work great together:

Stock PSU will be fine, it can power up to 75w cards.  Smaller Optiplex's also power the GTX 1650.  Optiplex 9020 + GTX 1650 + YouTube List 

And how many hundreds to thousands if not more than that, 9020's have been sold with Win10?  I have no idea.  I have seen better answers from the certain contributor in other forums.  May be she just likes gaming or the newest PC's.

PC Builds also recommends at least 16GB RAM.

9020 is fine and fully supported with windows 10.

@DELL-Chris M  may have further insight but 8CCF1 DELL GT1030 works fine in a 9020 tower and is plug and play.  The Dell OEM ECS 8CCF1 GeForce GT 1030 is the supported card for the 9020 tower.

Dell GT1060 requires optional 365w power supply for the tower.

You can also use commercial power supply like EVGA 700BR with MODDIY CAB359 adapter.

NON DELL GT1030 will require secure boot OFF in bios and also work fine without any mods or upgrades needed for power supply.

When installing an after-market graphics card into a Windows PC with UEFI secure boot enabled, the system may not boot.  This is true for ANY PC not just Dell.  Only short cards 8.5 inches or less fit into the 9020 case.

GT1030 works fine and runs well for most games up to 1080P

All drivers can be downloaded in a single cab file.

You download the cab and then move the cab file to My documents folder.

The dvd with the cab file drivers is all you will need to get going.

If I understand right, 1650 is a best choice for this processor and there is no need to install faster Video Card? If I put a faster GPU, then CPU will be a bottleneck?

75w card requires optional 365w power supply which is why the GT1030 is recommended.

NVIDIA recommends 300w or more power supply.  Default stock power supply is 290W.

Non dell cards require secure boot off.

Bottle neck is not a linear problem.

Depends on the workload as to whether or not its an issue.

Are you saying that if I install GTX 1650 (which comes without 6 pin power connector) in OP9020MT (with stock power supply) it will not work?

1. I will have 4790 not the 4790K.

2. I don't want to replace the Power Supply, that is why I want to use GTX 1650.

The 1060 is a good card, but it needs more power with 6 pin power, what means that I should replace power supply.

My answer is still yes.  I proved it with linking the YouTube videos.  The 9010 MT has a 275w PSU.  So I took a step back to see what would come up:  Optiplex 9010 + GTX 1650 + YouTube List  Again, stock PSU's, including in the SFF, are powering the GTX 1650.  In the 9010 &.9020, DT model has 250w PSU and the SFF 240w.  Smaller models don't have the same amount of power like some people may think.

The 290w PSU has 14A on the +12VA and 16A on the +12VB rails.  More than enough for the 75w card you want, which is why it's working for YouTubers.

Finally got my PC and Video card.

Now I have Dell 9020, stock PSU 290W, Core i7 4790 + 32RAM + 500SSD + 2Tb HDD + GeForce 1650 4Gb DDR6, Windows 10 Pro. Running good with no problems. Thanks to everyone.

To clarify a couple of things from my post above:  The 9020 SFF has a 255w PSU, not 240w.  The 9020 doesn't come in a DT model.

The 7020/9020 doesn't have a Tech Guide like the 7010/9010 does.
