Optiplex 390: switch VGA to HDMI output

I have an Optiplex 390 SFF refurbished.in 2017/11.  It has an intel video card and both VGA and HDMI.  My monitor is a Lenovo Thinkvision 23" HiDef with sound and camera.  It has VGA and DisplayPort inputs.  So far I have used VGA because it was the only cable I had.  I now have a HDMI to Displayport cable, and want to use that for my monitor.  How do I get the Optiplex 390 to switch it's output to HDMI?  Every time the system restarts, it puts out video on VGA only, and the monitor tells me "no input signal" on DisplayPort.

Assuming the HDMI/Display Port adapter is good, there could be a hardware problem with the motherboard.  If an HDMI cable is connected it is supposed to automatically detect that and switch video to the HDMI.  If its not doing it, two possibilities.  (1) The BIOS needs reset, or (2) a defective motherboard.

Try the BIOS reset.  Power off the PC, open the case and remove the CR2032 battery located on the motherboard for at least 10 minutes.  Reinstall the battery, observing polarity.  Close the case and power on the PC and see if that fixed it.  If not, there is likely a hardware problem on the motherboard and in that case, keep using the VGA which works.
