I just purchased a used Optiplex 5040 SFF that was used in a business.. I reset the BIOS to Legacy and checked all the setting that look correct. I got Windows 7 installed but on DVD because no usb ports are working (even though they show enabled in the BIOS). When I check Device manager no drivers are listed. When I try to install drivers from a CD I get a " Kernel 32.ll is missing". Can anyone tell me what's going on here and if this problem can be solved?
Majority of the times the Kernel32.dll error is caused due to corrupt files or due to virus.
Have you checked the CD that has the driver file? It may have bad sectors and hence corrupt driver files. Get a new CD of the driver. That'll solve your problem.
Or check and burn the driver file to a new CD and then install it.
I found the answer to the problem is not with the CD ( since I tried a number of different CD's and Flash drives) but with Microsoft support for Windows 7 (which somehow will not allow Windows 7 installs on newer machines). Windows 10 installed perfectly.
