I already installed a 1050 and it runs just fine

if a card says it needs 300 watts 225 will work just fine

thanks

760 is not upgradeable and not all the motherboards or sizes support quad cpu.

75w cards are not supported with the stock power supply.

The only upgrade is 40w GT1030 low profile card.

The DT power supply does not support Quads.

You are limited to

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8600/3.33GHz, 6M, 1333FSB

Only the Tower Does.

The Optiplex 760 MT uses two motherboards -
T674K Non-Quad core CPU motherboard
U562N Quad core CPU motherboard

Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q9650/3.00GHz, 12M, 1333FSB

You  you cannot use a quad core CPU on it.

38G73 E7400, 2.8GHz, 3MB, WFD, R0, (With VT)
F31F5 E7500, 2.93GHz, 3MB, WFD, R0, (With VT)
06YMG Dual Core E7600, 3.06GHz, 3MB, R0, (With VT)
H399J Dual Core E8400, 3.0GHz, 6MB, 65W, E0, 1333FSB
D923J Dual Core E8500, 3.16GHz, 6MB, 65W, E0, 1333FSB

UPGRADE? , old PCs like yours sell for $25 used on ebay all day (junk status and glut), or that $10 mobo,

why not upgrade it all go wild spend $50 on vastly better, PC, and MT 3020, with CORE i3 to i7,  no really ?

3020 is intel Gen4, this is the best , on the  the lower end of PCs. GEN4  or up.

then a new SSD, (boot drive,)

then more ram

or better CPU i7? , but will be expensive after the fact, buy PC with the right processor first. for  best $$$)

and last GPU.  that old G4x series, PC like yours will never get full usage out of any top GPU card.

the quad CORE2, is dirt cheap , no body buys them and are near free to buy even $3.  (i do have PCs with this USED ONLY FOR TESTING)

But in truth, no reason to upgrade even stated or hinted,  and this PC is no gaming PC, (yours)

we call throwing good money after bad. that,

the Best path is a better BASE PC.  start there. and WIN  and have future. for the next upgrade.

what Killer APP runs too slow, is my guess, and not stated. 100,000 apps,  wow.

mine runs quad, with bios upgrade,  my 380 and 780 and 790 run quad, using the newest stepping CPU and will run w10-64bit.(can demo that !)

why post at all lacking which of 4 cases you have, tell us what PSU MAY be there, and what cards fit. why?

Intel Q43 Express Chipset w/ICH10D  ( Q45 was last and best in the series, Q43 very close and tested by me)

this chip set for sure RUN QUAD, ONLY limit is BIOS, so upgrade BIOS.

why not tell what case you have.  first. ok?

usff,sff,DT and MT.usff,sff,DT and MT.

I was given this pc by my school since they didnt need it so i was thinking of upgrading it a little so it could run games like cs:go. The pc is a Dell Optiplex780 sff (i wrote 760 by mistake) and i read that a core2 quad is the most powerful cpu the motherboard can have, my friend would sell me a GTX 1050 ti for cheap and i thought it could make a decent low budget gaming pc.

stock power supply is LESS THAN 300W and therefore 75W GTX 1050 or 1050 TI is not supported. 780 SFF makes no difference whatsoever.

25W card is max available power for LOW PROFILE Cards.

GT1030 is 30W card.

GT1050 series are 75W cards.

Idle power vs use are different. If you use the gpu it will use power enough to shutdown. reboot, crash or otherwise destroy the power supply. You chose the smallest one with the smallest power supply so you limited yourself. The following are Dell validated Low Profile PCI-e 16X video cards .

The official supported card uses 25w max.

a 75w card would boot but will push the less than 300w power supply beyond spec and fry it.  After looking there are no units that fit that will work with more watts.

25W MAX for DT and SFF25W MAX for DT and SFF
