Optiplex 790 - Remove System Drive (Use It To Extract Files)

Hi Gang

Rather than Delete/Erase a system drive that has 'Windows 7 Pro', I'd like to actually keep it in order pull/copy files off it.

I'd rather do a 'NEW' Windows Install on a 'NEW' System Drive, enclose the old system drive in a powered external enclosure, then simply navigate to various folders pulling off data to be copied to the New System Drive.

Sound Reasonable/Possible?

Thank You

I have done that many times and still have external drives that have come in very handy when I needed an old file.

@WWII Researcher

Data recovery easily done by using OEM WINDOWS DVD to reinstall OS on Brand new drive and recover data from the old drive using USB Drive dock.  When a drive is failing is not going to be helpful to try this yourself.
