Optiplex 990 DT Graphics upgrade

Hello, I am currently using AMD Radeon HD 6450 1GB DDR3 and I had my eyes set on a possible upgrade I think might work is the AMD Radeon R5 240 since I have a 4K monitor I would love to use. Using the stock PSU I have at 250watt. Is the AMD Radeon R5 240 ideal for this system or only the Radeon HD Series compatible?

Thank You

The AMD Radeon R5 240 does not have rear PSU (power supply unit) connectors. It draws all of its power (50w) from the PCIe x16 slot. I am not sure if the 990 DT 250w PSU is enough. Just test it. You can always install a higher wattage PSU in there.

IF I AM CORRECT DESKTOP MACHINES USE PROPRIETARY PSU WHICH CAN'T BE UPGRADED.

The Dell 7GC81 Dell 250 Watt Desktop Power Supply DOES NOT SUPPORT TFX power supplies.  Its MUCH SMALLER Than that, its 90 degrees from where the fan is and otherwise its not physically fitting.990 Desktop Rear View990 Desktop Rear View

Best Option is a Gigabyte GV-N1030D4-2GL GeForce GT 1030

None of the R series work correctly because the bios requires DOS VESA mode 103 and the R series doesnt support that.

Older Radeon 6670 7750 etc works fine but none of the R series is working.

I have the same desktop (Dell Optiplex 990 DT), there are very few options for a PSU upgrade, but I found a renamed seasonic Ss-300tfx 300w from Systium. It´s been working great with the following config;

i5 2500k (no point having this here, but I got it for free)

Xonar DG PCI soundcard

GTX 1050 TI LP Gigabyte (A great little GPU if you can find it cheap)

1 tb WD hard drive

8 gb RAM dual channel

Various USB accesories connected.

When looking for a PSU always watch out for the 12v rail output, there´s many cheap PSUs out there basically worse than the original PSU with a supposably higher wattage.

I also found that there´s no problem with the mobo meeting the 75w requirements for my GPU directly from the PCIE lane.

Sorry for my bad english,

regards. AST.

It´s been running fine the last 4 months.
