3020, support UEFI ?

HI 1) I have a dell optiplex 3020 with i5 4590 , and a rx 570 ,but the motherboard of that computer comes with 8 pins connector . so if i change the psu to something like 450 or 500 watt and put it to a 24 pins to 8 pins conector . am i going to find any problem with that? and one thing else, does rx 570 function well in dell 3020 or i need to update bios and flash or something like that.? 2) does dell Optiplex 3020 support UEFI ?

The 3020 does not use standard power supply.  I have only used MODDIY Adapter.  No Idea what you use.

https://www.moddiy.com/products/Dell-OptiPlex-3020-PSU-Main-Power-24-Pin-to-8-Pin-Adapter-Cable-30cm.html

thermal take 700W would not have sufficient power on the 12v Rails.

There is a reason why this is $39 and not $99.

The EVGA 750B1 works

https://www.evga.com/products/specs/psu.aspx?pn=c4bcf041-0984-47ee-81c9-cdc619eeb031

B2,BQ,W1,G2 etc from the same vendor DOES NOT WORK.

EVGA 700B1 is also fine.

700N1, 700W1, 700BQ etc IS NOT fine.

Hi,

What specifically is it about the other EVGA 700w models (W,BT etc..) that means they are unsuitable for this?

any update on the graphic card

and what did you end up doing

nvidia cards are a better option with these systems

even if the rx 570 will give you more fps

it is much trouble

if cash is tight,  a GTX1050 runs great.   ($50 use to $150 new)

GeForce GTX 1650 ,  75watt too. TURING CLASS. $150"?

the cash you save on PSU , adds to card, above, so even the GTX1050 can be free of cost see?

I buy cards from BITT-COINN(SIC) miner dropouts, (econ 101 kicks in) and a room full of useless cards

I lay in wait.  no better deals period. (real card s with DP jacks)

the 700watt Psu fits, with the adaptor,  from 24pins to 8pins a $7 cable, sold in most top online stores. even fleabay..,.

my 3020 cost me a whopping %50 scans hdd. (before upgrades, really that be near free if you think what any new PC costs now) Lots of bank for the buck in any 3020.,  the USB ports do 1.13amps at spec. 4.6vdc too.

The 3.3v / 5v combined maximum power is 150W on the 700BR  on the B2 BQ N1 W1 etc from the same vendor MAX POWER on these rails is 130w or LESS.   5VSB must be 3AMPS or More and on the non working power supplies its 2.5 amps or LESS.

700B1 is fine 700B2 BQ is not ok. 750B1 is ok  750B2/BQ/N1 is a problem.

750B2 not enough power750B2 not enough power

Power supplies are not a single spec of watts.  How much power you use counts.

Dell power supplies as low as 305W have 150W combined on those rails.

The only one I know of thats lower is 142W on the Dell 460W power supplies.

When you want to use a video card that uses more than 40W you must either use the 700BR and Moddiy adapter or the Optional 365W power supply from Dell.

Wait, seriously?

3020 has H81 and AHCI should be supported by default.
Even my 3010 with H61 supports AHCI.

" should be supported by default"

Its not.

Nowhere in F2 CMOS setup is there a place to say AHCI.

Dell Insprion 620/Vostro 260 /Inspiron One has the exact same issue.

Intel(R) H61 Express Chipset Family LPC Interface Controller - 1C5C

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C5C&CC_060100
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C5C&CC_0601

Several Models with low end chipsets DO NOT HAVE an AHCI option.

NO Bios Setting for AHCI

why post with no case size?

the MT 3020 can do all this with 700w PSU

MINI TOWER

my space in mine, long , 10.25"

if you remove the silly card cage there, and then put up a SSD mount on front, or OGM tie wrap it there.

any card will fit. full sized cards,  (this is no low profile case) above. it is the MT.

any SSD runs great in the PC,  AHCI not present, is  not  some huge shock.

if you have only one SSD drive AHCI is not all that great.  hint try it and see, millions have.

The NCQ feature will only help in some special applications,.

what matters most is speed of SSD and the I/O SATA bus. Saga II in this case.(not too bad)

just run the SSD and be happy,  I bet you will, I am.

I don't know who to believe...
you.. or this machine??

I know H61 is limited to SATA 2 / 3Gb/s but everything states that AHCI is enabled.

I think its still weird that my 3010 SFF (which is a predecessor with an older chipset) does support AHCI and the 3020 isn't suppose to support it?
well I can see for myself tomorrow when the 3020 gets here.

The 7020 and 9020 do not have this limitation because they use different chipset.

Its the same issue with a 390 vs 790 or 990.

This also causes problems with some vendors SSD drives not working due to no AHCI.

If this is a 3020 MICRO then perhaps they use newer chipset.  I do not own one of those.

It will not show AHCI in device manager for the controller.

It will show standard IDE aka non AHCI for the hard drive interface.

I just got my 3020 bios and device manager are showing AHCI just fine like the 3010.
Also don't get confused with the "IDE ATA/ATAPI-Controller" category. It even says that on my Z270 Board even though the controller runs in AHCI mode.
anyone else who has issues running their Optiplex in AHCI Mode, try:

  • Update your BIOS to the latest version
  • Make sure System Configuration/SATA Operation AHCI is enabled all the time !
  • Reinstalling Windows from scratch with enabled AHCI mode should give you no issues with drivers.
However, you can change to an AHCI driver after you first installed in ATA mode, but its rather tricky and often ends with a bluescreen at boot..
