Poweredge 320 IDRAC Not Accessable
I have a Poweredge 320 that came with VMware ESXi 5.1 already installed on it. I am able to get to ESXi host via Vshphere client. However it is showing that I do not have persistent storage and need to create it. I tried creating it and it would not let me.
I have been told that I have a possible driver issue and need to resinstall VMware. In order to do that I need to get IDRAC working. I set it up however I cannot access it. I know I can access the server because I can ping the ESXi host and connecct via http to the host. But cannot connect to IDRAC. I have double checked the settings and all my ip and username information is there still.
I need to get through this so I can go on to trying to install VMWare and any drivers I need.
Do you guys have any ideas?
Thanks

Can you share below details. You can get these details from iDRAC Settings page during reboot by pressing F2.

Thanks for the response and the link. Actually this is the video I used to set up IDRAC it was very thorough and I followed it step by step. But it does not seem to work. I even tried to rebooting the server. Funny thing is I can access the ESXi host which is one IP address next to it. But IDRAC will not even answer a ping.
Any other ideas or any known issues I should consider?
Thanks

Have you purchased and installed the Idrac 7 Enterprise license. This will be required to enable the Idrac and mount virtual media.

Well I have tried just about everything I can think of. I have rebooted the server. I have gone over the IDRAC config three times. I have checked all network connections and they are working fine. I used the i button on the front and the i button on the back. Did not help.
Then I disconnected the power cables and held down the power button for 30 seconds it did not help.
Does anyone out there have any ideas? Is IDRAC that difficult to get working or maybe this server is bad?

Hi REVO816,
If I understand this right you should be trying to install VMWare remotely and having issues connecting to IDRAC.
As far as IDRAC Enterprise is concerned, dedicated port is support on the Enterprise so you can offload the IDRAC traffic to it's dedicated port, Media redirection and etc.
Would you mind PM me the service tag of the server so I can check for you?
Thanks,

Shine,
I got it working. Swapped out the cable. To answer your questions.
1. 1.30.30
2.Enterprise
3. Dedicated
4.Yes
My next steps are to get a new version of ESXi installed on here. I have the software. And want to install it on the flash drive. So I dont waste space on my harddisks.
Do you have the procedure for doing this?
Thanks for your help.

Did you have "Internal Dual SD Module" on the server. You can install ESXi to SD cards on this module. This module can be enabled and configured from BIOS. Once configured you can install OS on SD card in this module.
For installing OS you can use vMedia or Remote File Share feature of iDRAC to mount the Image to the server. For more detail on the same refer "Deploying Operating System" section on iDRAC user guide. User guide is available at below location

Yes I do have an interndal dual SD module on the server.
What is the procedure for enabling and configuring from BIOS? Does this need to be done before deploying operating system from IDRAC?
I will check out the link on IDRAC user guide and read up on deploying opeating system.
Thanks

You need to enable Internal SD Card Port on BIOS.
If you have 2 SD card on SD module, then you need to set "Internal SD Card Redundancy" as Mirror mode. Once you enable mirror mode you need to reboot the server which will initiate rebuild of SD card.
These options are available at "Integrated Devices" section under BIOS

Ok. I am working on this. It appears I have the Dual SD cards set up in mirror. And I have access to the Installer for VMWare ESXi 5.5 online.
I believe the next step is to get ESXi 5.5 onto a CD/DVD which I can copy on a different PC. Is this correct? Is there anything else I need to do to make it bootable on the server?
Then do I just boot from the CD? If so how do I get it onto the Dual SD card?
Thanks

If you have iso image of ESXi you can mount it remotely using iDRAC vMedia or Remote File Share. Once you mount the image you need to boot the server into ESXi image and start installation. During installation select flash media as Disk. For more details refer below link

Shine,
Ok. These are basically the steps I have been following on the KB article. I have plenty of space, I have a good server, and I have iDRAC 7 working however I do not see anything that says mount a drive on the iDRAC or on virtual console.
I have made sure that DVD is the first boot device, and bootable DVD is in drive. But when I get to step 5 in the KB article. It does not boot to the DVD. It just conitinues to boot as normal with the old OS on there.
What am i missing?
Thanks,
