Where can I download the Server Assistant CD Image for a PowerEdge 1550

Open Manage 1.4 and DOSA 3.4 cd is the last version that supported the 1550.

DELL OpenManage Server Assistant 6.4 CD set would work.
This software supports Dell PowerEdge 300, 350, 1300, 1400, 1550, 2300, 2400, 2450, 2500, 2550,
4300, 4350, 4400, 6300, 6350, 6400, 6450, and 8450 Systems. P/N 0703DX  Rev. A02.

1550 is Too old to use version 4.XX .

You can obtain many of the NEW SERVER  ISOs from http://ftp.dell.com/sysman although
you lose the advantage of having them classified by appropriateness for
a particular system that way.

In the file listing there:
* "DSA" in the name of an .ISO file indicates an older "Dell Server
Assistant" CD
* "ISM" in the name of an .ISO file means "Installation and Server
Management"
* "SDU" means "System Diagnostics and Utilities"

As mentioned before, the latest versions of the ISM won't support some
of the earlier servers so you may have to drop back to the 4.5 ISM for
some (or even earlier for really old servers).

SpeedStep if 4.5 was not supported why would Dell list the 1550 the link I posted as supported... Look at the list, more importantly the bold.

For what it's worth, I've never had any issues installing Red Hat or variants without the Server Assistant CD. In fact I prefer to do it that way.

OMSA saves boatloads of time and hassle if you're doing a multi-server deployment or installing Windows, but if it's a single server install of CentOS only, it should work straight off the install DVD. In my experience all the hardware (excluding DRAC etc) is natively supported.

Just nuke all partitions except for the utility partition during install and you'll be fine.

You can install the drivers/utilities for any management stuff after installing the OS; CentOS exactly equals Red Hat Enterprise Linux, so treat it accordingly.. from memory you can just add an additional yum repository to your config and install the Dell packages that way, but I might be wrong.

I see it is a Old thread, but i will give it a try.

I have a Old 2850 Dell server, which i like to play with,  and i like to install Windows 2012 RC Server.

I have the Openmange Dell CD, but i can only choose 2000,2003 Server Linux and so on.

Because i have a Perc Raid Management, Windows 2012 does not see the Hard Drives, and i can not find the drivers on any CD.

It will not install Windows 2012.

Any Help ?

Dell Server Assistant 2.4.1 will NOT work on a Poweredge 1550, neither will about 6 other versions of Server Assistant or System Build and Update Utility that I currently have.

In each and every single case it will report the system is unsupported.

Dell in their infinite wisdom does NOT care onme single bit about hardware, or the techs in the field that have to support their hardware, once it is out of warranty they want us selling new hardware.

How aboput a setup utility that wuill allow us to install on any poweredge we happen to have? OR how about actually answering the questions people ask?

The first post in this thread is looking for setup utility for a 1550, what was provided will NOT work on a 1550.

OK, I am happy to report that ISM 4.5 did in fact work and allow me to comfortably install Windows Server 2003 on a Poweredge 1550. It did warn that it only supported SP1, but that was fine in my case.

It's a nice thought, but the current installation utility, supporting systems 9G-12G, is over 3GB in size.  (Their update utility covering 10G-12G is already almost 5GB and requires a DL DVD.)  If you add ALL the systems to that that were not included in the latest versions, it would be over 6G.  1) that is too big for standard DVD, and you would be required to put it on a DL DVD, which may not be read on "early" DVD drives, and 2) considering that DVD drives did not ship with systems until 6G (not until 8G that they became mainstream), even standard DVD would not be an option on older machines having only CD drives.  Forget USB, as only 8G+ machines will boot to USB.  So, why not drop older systems from the newer utilities to save space?  After all, they can continue using the older utilites supporting those machines.  Also, the 1550 is 12 years old!  How long do you want Dell to keep up support for such an old machine?!  A $300 desktop computer would run circles around a 1550, regardless of workload.

SpeedStep doesn't work for Dell, neither do I.  Now, there are some Dell support personnel in these forums to help answer questions, but prior to recently, it has always been a user-helping-user forum.  Even with Dell personnel here now, this is NOT an official avenue of support with Dell.  They are under no obligation to take on cases or answer questions.  As always, if you want to open a case with Dell, you need to CALL them.  (They will still take your call and support your system, even out of warranty.)
