2950 Backplane Swap - 4 to 6
Hello,
I purchased a used PowerEdge 2950 that came with a 4x SAS backplane. Are there any issues (physically or electrically) with swapping it for a 6x backplane? I would prefer the 8x 2.5 backplane, but it appears to need a different physical server face.
Just looking for input from someone who has gone down this path.
Thanks,
Tim

Bump!
Hi Tim,
I need to do exactly the same thing. Did you manage it? were there any problems? Where did you source the x6 backplane????
From what I've seen so far there should be no problem from the controller's perspective, the server with the x4 backplane is actually in production at the moment, but once the new backplane is in I ought to be able to either add the new disks either to my existing RAID array or create second array on the other channel.
Please do let me know how you got on, and particularly where you got eh backplane as I'm having difficulty tracking one down...
Kind regards,
Ciaran.

You can find the backplane you need at http://stores.velocitytechsolutions.com/-strse-1296/PN610-dell-poweredge-2950/Detail.bok
There should be no problems changing out the x4 backplane for the x6 backplane. You may need to add a 2nd backplane cable.
