Best Stripe Size with ESXI
Running ESXI 5.5 u3 on a single Dell PE T430 with a Perc H730. My current RAID volumes are all SSD with 64k stripe sizes and RAID10. I’m adding a new ESXI volume using 4 x 2Tb SATA in RAID10 and this will mainly be a storage volume for an existing Windows Server 2016 with Word, Excel and PDFs. What would the best stripe size to use for this new RAID volume when I setup in my iDRAC? I understand that smaller files benefit more with smaller stripe sizes like 64k.
Thanks for any input.

It's really going to come down to the load you put on the system. If you're storing lots of smaller files, a smaller stripe size may be beneficial. However, I'm not convinced that you'd notice much of a difference. I would somewhat expect the differences to be somewhat minor. I generally recommend to use the default settings. The presence of cache on the controller that accelerates reads and writes I would expect to mask most of the differences.
You might see more of a benefit if you were trying to tune for a system with high-performance needs, but in this situation, I would think the defaults would work out well.
