Breaking a RAID1 on a damaged SAS 5iR controller
A client has a very old server with a failed SAS 5iR controller. The post don't show information regarding the SAS controller's configuration, just errors.
I want to back up the data on the server and build a new one.
Since it has a RAID1, If I remove one disk from the array and connect it to a new controller, would it be possible to boot / read the contents to make a backup?
Thanks

Hi there!! I have a PowerEdge SC 1430 with a broken SAS 5ir controller. Since that controller is no longer available, is it possible to change it by a newer controller and keep the disks/raids configuration?
Thanks in advance.

As long as the "new" controller is a SAS 5/iR or SAS 6/iR, it will recognize the RAID formatting and be able to use the existing configuration and read the data.
