CBL0001 after upgrading R730XD from 2.5 to 3.5 inch back plane

CBL0001 backplane 0 power cable disconnected

we upgraded this system from a 2.5-inch chassis and backplane to a 3.5 and are getting this error on boot everything still works if you bypass it but want to get this error to go away so the server will boot unattended I have it configured as pictured and power cables are connected in the spots circled in red.

thanks in advance.r730xd upgrade.jpg

Did you have rear backplane also for this configuration. 12X3.5 backplane need only one Power cable. Which slot it is connected to? Can you share the part number of cables used to connect the backplane. Can you also ensure you have latest iDRAC and BIOS FW installed on the server.

Hi @ReyokoNova,

Could you check, you might be using the wrong BP power cable. As requested by Shine, could you provide us all the 3 power cable DPN# for us to verify. Based on the diagram, https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-r730xd/r730xd_ompublication/system-board-jumpers-and-connectors?guid=guid-f9627386-54dd-4436-aac6-9dbf28dc52b7&lang=en-us connector no# 31, 36 and 41 need to be connected to the 3.5" backplane.

Hello,

I suggest you at first to refer to this manual, as Shine said only 1 power cord on the backplane. You have also signal cable to connect.

Thanks

Hello ReyokoNova,

These are the backplane power cables for the R730XD.

You have the top two.

The third is for the Rear backplane.

If you don't have the cable you need then you may need the forth cable: RC3DG

I will note that changing backplane in the field is not Dell supported. Backplane is selected at time of purchase. But we can give you  best effort support.

Today catch same problem, after install SSD NVMe PCIe EXTENDER EXPANSION CARD GY1TD P31H2.

My mistake was installing 2 upgrade same time, change right ear for quick sync bazel support and install card with wiring.

Long story short: I return back right ear and connect it and my error gone.

I answer here, because it's #1 in Google when I try to find "CBL0001".

Hello I'm glad your issue was solved. Just for the future reference for anyone needing the infromation, the right ear is where the configuration information is stored.
I may have suggested idrac reset and run device discovery.
