Change AHCI to RAID Mode

Hi,

I have installed the windows server 2008 R2 into PowerEdge R620 with PERC H710, 2x300GB HDD in AHCI mode. If I change the AHCI mode to RAID mode, the data will lost or NOT? Actually I need to run the system in RAID 1.

Thanks,

PC

Boot to CTRL-R during POST or use OMSA from the OS.

No, RAID and non-RAID are not compatible with each other, so if you switch, you'll have to rebuild or restore from backup.

HOWEVER, don't use the onboard RAID ... just keep it in AHCI mode and do a Windows-managed RAID ... performance will be better than the S110.

If you want a real RAID 1 with better performance, get the PERC H710.

Hi,

I got the PERC H710 and forgot to configure it. Can I set it to RAID 1 now? after setting, it will format or delete my existing data? need to rebuild or restore the system?

Thanks!

The H710 doesn't support non-RAID, so you would have to have configured something, or nothing would have been visible to the OS to install to.

Because it doesn't support non-RAID, that would mean you have a RAID array configured - if you have only one disk, then that would be a single-disk RAID, which CAN be converted to a two-disk RAID 1 by adding a disk to the configuration.

I have a Dell Latitude, and want to change from RAID to AHCI without breaking the windows, and i read that a simpler solution about regedit.exe and i applied the values of the registers as you said, now if i changed from RAID to AHCI would the data be erased or not?
