Config tool says when using a Perc710 I have to mix SAS and SATA if creating 2 arrays. Is that true?

I'm in the process of building a T320 and I want to use a Perc710.

I'm going to be running SBS 2011 (upgrading SBS 2003)

Want a Raid 1 for OS and a Raid 6 for Data

Would like to use all SAS drives for best possible performance/safety.

Can't I use (2) 300GB SAS drives in a raid one array and then use (6) 2TB SAS drives in a Raid 6 array on the Perc710?  That would make sense to me.  When I try to configure on the website it says I an't do it.  Can someone splain...

Thanks,

Of course you can. The online configurator is not capable of every possibly conceivable configuration, but I can guarantee it can be done on the controller. You can configure it to your liking once you receive the server, or you can call Dell for the configuration you need (it will cost less too). Considering you are looking to run SBS 2011, you are going to be installing the OS from scratch anyway, right? So, no biggie - just order a RAID 1 + RAID 5, then delete the RAID 5 and create a RAID 6 (or RAID 10) with the drives.
