I have a R720 with a Perc H710P controller running set two RAID sets, a RAID1 and RAID5.
The RAID5 set consists of a single Virtual Disk. I'm looking to add an additional physical disk to that RAID5 and extend the array.
Reviewing the technical document it appears possible as the H710P, through OMSA, supports OCE which allows expanding of the RAID5 set, as long as there is only a single virtual disk. The process being to add the physical disk and subsequently extend the array the use the free capacity. All the while retaining access to the volume and no data loss.
I understand the risks and potential data loss that could occur. The volume is used to stage backups prior to offloading to tape. The data is not critical, however I'd rather not have to rebuild the backup sets.
I've performed similar extensions to capacity on HP's, but never using OMSA/Dell.
Has anyone performed similar extensions with success?
Many times. I'm not sure what else to tell you ... it appears as though you have found all the info you need. Was there another question you had?
Thanks Flash, not really, sort of seeking the confirmation you've given by making sure I'm not assuming what I've read will achieve what I want! Thanks.
