Does Perc H200 support PowerVault LTO4-120HH

My existing server (Poweredge 1800) is due replacement.  I have an existing PowerVault LTO4-120HH that is working fine (and has all my backups).  I wish to purchase a new T320 with a PERC H200 controller.  Will this configuration allow my to remove the PowerVault from the old 1800 and connect it to the T320?  (Fully understanding I need to reinstall backup software, etc).  Can I make this change without needing to purchase additional HBA SAS card?  TIA

The H310 does not support tape devices, so yes you need a separate adapter for the tape drive, which is better for performance reasons as well.

What is the controller that is currently in the 1800 that is connected to the tape drive? The H200 should work fine with a tape drive.

The current controller setup is a Perc 4/DC Raid controller and a SAS 5/E Adaptor Controller (per Device Manager).  I did not build/order the server, I inherited it.  Want RAID 1 in new server and ability to attach existing tape drive. Thanks

The H200 is not a validated card on the T320, it may work, but it would be better to have separate controllers for the RAID 1 and the tape drive and not try to have both the RAID 1 and the tape drive on the same H200 in the server. The supported configuration would be an H310 for the drives and a SAS 6Gbps HBA External Controller for the tape drive.

Ok, sorry, fingers aren't working.  It should be a PERC H310, not an H200.  Based on what you said, it looks like I do need to add the SAS HBA if I am going with the default H310.  Is that correct?

Thanks

Dear All

Recently I have bought a DELL LTO-7 tape drive. This package includes a tape drive and a sas cable, but no HBA controller. I have a spare PERC H200 raid card was being used in Dell T110 server.
Can I use this card (H200) as HBA controller for LTO-7 tape drive?. If yes then how?.

Is this card (H200) usable in a normal desktop machine in PCIe slot?

Thanks

Hello Shohorab,

Here is the link to the support matrix and if you look on page 5 we list out the supported controllers.  https://dell.to/2S4mCSg

Your perc H200 is not showing as supported for an LTO7 drive.  Now there is a chance that it may work, but if it doesn’t then you will need to get one of the supported drives.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello Shohorab,

You can use an HBA in a desktop machine as long as you have the correct slot for the card.
