Help - PowerEdge 2600 - 6 36G SCSI Drives
Help me if you can
I have a Del 2600
"C" drive is a mirror Disk0 and Disk1 - this is working fine so far
"D" drive is a RAID 5 consisting of DISK2 DISK3 and DISK4
Hot Spare - DISK5
I booted up the system today and RAID5 arrays DISK4 is blinking yellow and has some media errors - this RAID 5 array is noted as DEGRADED
All is working OK now other than the fact that the RAID 5 array is functioning on 2 physical drives - DISK2 and DISK3 which appear OK right now
I have 2 new 36G drives which are the same Seagate model drives as the ones installed in the system right now
Should I replace the BAD DISK4 with one of the new drives and FORCE the new drive online or should I just leave all as is and just FORCE DISK4 online - and what about the "with no HSP" option
Please help

Do not force the replacement online ... you will destroy all your RAID 5 data.
You force online a drive ONLY if 1) the array is offline, AND 2) all original drives are present.
You NEVER force online a drive when the array is online and degraded.
Remove the failed drive "hot" (do not power down to replace it), wait 60 seconds, then insert the replacement. It will probably start rebuilding on its own. If not, then you need to assign it as a hot-spare (if it is showing 'ready') or choose rebuild (if it is showing 'failed').
