PERC H710 blocked my WD2001FYYG drives

I put four WD2001FYYG (Western Digital 2TB SAS Enterprise Drives) in my brand new R720xd with a PERC H710 card.  All four hard drives show up as blocked in the H710 BIOS utility.  Only drives I bought from Dell show up as usable.

My H710 has the latest firmware I can find on the Dell site (21.1.0-0007 A03).

I thought that Dell had already backed off blocking non-Dell-branded drives with the H700 controller.  What's up?

BTW, the Manual for the H710 says

Issue: One or more physical disks is displayed as Blocked and cannot be configured.

Corrective Action: Update the PERC cards to the latest firmware available on support.dell.com.

HI, I understand this is an old thread, but did you fond a resolution for this problem. I have a t420 with a perc H710p and it does not recognise my Hitachi sas drives....it say blocked

I found that non-certified drives worked with 512n sector drive.  Check specs on your SAS drive.  Are your SAS drives the newer 4kn version?  If you have the 4KN drives, I don't think it will work with a perc H710.  Google "4kn vs 512n". 512e may not work either.  HGST sells their drives in 512n, 512e, and 4kn sector size.  I think the 512n is more backwards compatible and is running now on my Dell PE R720 with PERC Mini H710 RAID controller -- no issues.

For test, throw a couple drives with 512n sector size in your server that are not Dell certified and see if RAID interface says they are blocked.  I have both in my Dell R720 now and the 512n is working and 4kn's are blocked.  Just updated firmware, but made no difference.
