Perc 3/sc errors, new machine.

New 1600sc, with a 3 disk raid 5, perc3/sc.

New server, only under light test loads, found the following errors in the event log.

Just running a consistency check will clear the error, for about a day, then it reoccurs.

Any info on the sense key and codes?

Re: Perc 3/sc errors, new machine.

Good description of the failure !

The 02 / 04 / 00 (key / code / qualifier) is reported back when your disk drive is Not Ready.   This is usually seen as a normal condition before the drive spins up.  When seen later, it indicates the drive has failed in a major function and will not report operational readiness.

The 04 / 42 /00 indicates the drive is reporting back a hardware error (key = 04). the code indicates the location of the error (circuit or servo area).

Bottom line is it is time to replace drive 0:1.   It's bad and will continue to fail.

Re: Perc 3/sc errors, new machine.

Since this is a new machine, I will have to contact support about warranty info.

But, it seems to me this error only happens on a restart of the server.  I shut it down today for

about 15 minutes, and on restart the same errors occured.

Is there anything else that could cause this, besides an actual bad drive?

Ralph Gallardo

Re: Perc 3/sc errors, new machine.

Your error log is very specific to the drive.  The only other possibility would be if you had a very faulty power system.   I'd go with changing the drive first.
