Power Edge 4300 RAID drives not spinning up

I have a Power Edge 4300 with a three drive RAID. None of the three drives are spinning up. I have removed the drives and reinserted them. I have tried plugging the SCSI cable from the backplane directly into the SCSI port on the motherboard. I have checked all three power sources and all three have green lights. What next?

Re: Power Edge 4300 RAID drives not spinning up

Hi,

The initial indication is the backplane is non-functional. Check the power connections on the motherboard and the backplane.

Do you get any LED activity on the hard drives?
Are there any error messages on the screen during POST?
What changes were made recently to the server?

Re: Power Edge 4300 RAID drives not spinning up

I only have access to the server once a week as it's at a remote school location, but I'll go ahead and answer the two questions I can from memory.

Green power indicators at first, then switching to amber failure lights when the drives try to spin up.

None.

As for error messages, I'll have to wait until I'm at the server again before I can answer that one.

Re: Power Edge 4300 RAID drives not spinning up

After removing the backplane from the system, cleaning it and reinserting it the server now seems to be functioning normally again.

Many thanks for your help.
