PowerEdge 2650 takes longer BIOS boot with more RAM

I bought 8 more GB RAM for my PE 2650, which had 4 GB originally. When I installed the 12 GB RAM, the server takes about 10 minutes to load, at the Dell splash screen, compared to 3 minutes with 4 GB RAM. What is causing the server to boot so long. Is it the POST Diagnostics? Is there anyway I can make it faster?

I doubt there is anything you can do to speed it up. Newer systems have an option to skip startup/memory diags, but I don't think this one does. You might run 32-bit diagnostics on the memory to make sure it is healthy and make sure it matches the required specs exactly (while it may still work, it may be sub-optimal). You should also make sure that the BIOS is up to date.
