PowerEdge 2900 Drive Flashing Amber

Hi

We have a PowerEdge running Server 2003 R2.  It has 6 drives - 4 in a RAID.  One of the drives is flashing amber.  Virtual Disk 0 reports as degraded.  Is the fix it as simple as just hot swapping it?

Note: I am woefully ignorant in the world of Windows servers - we are an almost all Mac shop.

Well, this is not a "Windows" question - it is a hardware question.

Is the fix it as simple as just hot swapping it?

Probably. It is not a definitive yes or no, because it depends on a LOT of things, but swap the drive with a replacement and go from there.

ALWAYS replace "hot-swappable" drives HOT.

It may start rebuilding automatically within 60 seconds of being inserted. If not, you will need to assign it as a hot-spare to start the rebuild. If the disk is not available to assign as a hot-spare, it is either because it is unsuitable for a replacement (incompatible, wrong type, too small, etc.) OR because it has been flagged as "foreign". If it gets flagged as foreign, you need to CLEAR the foreign configuration before you can do anything with it.

Don't use desktop/laptop/consumer drives in servers.
