PowerEdge 2950 - Server 2008 R2 - PERC 4/DC

I've seen a lot of solutions regarding PERC 4/DC cards and how to install a fresh copy of Server 2008 R2 (by using Server 2003 64-bit drivers).  My question is how would you go about installing the card on a system that already has Server 2008 R2 up and running?  We have old 1TB array that we'd like to use on a PowerEdge 2950 but we're unable to install the driver for our PERC 4/DC controller.  Formatting the server and installing Server 2008 R2 again is not an option.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance for the help…

What I might advise is to start with downloading the driver:

http://ftp.us.dell.com/scsi-raid/LSI-LOGIC_MULTI-DEVICE_A00_R227150.exe

Download and extract, should output to a folder off of C:\dell.

Once extracted, power down, add in the PERC4.  When you boot up, it should want to run the plug and play new device found wizard.  Simply cancel out and from device manager, you should be able to see the device now, simply point at the extracted folder and you should be in good shape from there and be able to add the external storage device.

Dell has not issued a driver specifically for the 4/DC, because they either decided not to test it or it is not compatible.  On every other platform, the driver for the 4/DC and the 4e/DC is the same, so this is your best bet.  If that doesn't work,  you might consider looking for a driver for the equivalent controller on LSI's website (PERC 4's are all based on LSI logic).

Thank you for the reply, Todd, but the driver you supplied is for a PERC 4e/Di, PERC 4e/Si, and/or PERC 4e/DC.  I specifically need a driver for a PERC 4/DC.

WIth 2008 R2, the native driver should pick the card up, that is in part why it doesnt list on the support.dell.com site.  The driver should work to pull a native device driver, but as an alternative, the suggestion would be to use the 2003 X64 driver.

Was not Windows native support for the PERC 4's dropped in 2008R2?  (or just for the 4e?)
