Problems with SATA drives in RAID-10 array

I have the following problem. I have added 4x4TB SATA drives into my free HDD slots on DELL PowerEdge R530.

The iDrac diagnostics see those disks as online. I have created a RAID-10 array and in iDrac I can see that partition. Unfortunately the activity led of the hdds on slot 2 and 3 are constantly blinking and I even do now use the disk.

My second issue is that the installed OS which is Cent OS does not see this drive and I can not mount it.

Any idea where how to solve this issues?

Hi,

Which raid controller are you using? What does fdisk –l show?

HI.

The controller is PERC H730. Suddenly after a system shutdown now I can see the device as /dev/sdb.

I have followed all instructions to mount this raid array in to the system and even that I do not write any data to that drive the active leds are blinking green constantly. The status led is also green.

On my other raid array (raid 1) which consists of two SSD where I have actually installed the OS I do not see such activity.

What could be the reason? I do not think that this is normal behavior.

Greetings!

It could still be doing a background inititlization. Does the os show any disk activity?

iostat
Linux 3.10.0-862.el7.x86_64 ( 08/20/2018 _x86_64_ (32 CPU)

avg-cpu: %user %nice %system %iowait %steal %idle

Device: tps kB_read/s  kB_wrtn/s      kB_read             kB_wrtn
sda           10.97              458.05   120.28472472   124069
sdb            1.06                 7.77       0.00      8017    4

Now after a new restart of the system It seems better. The activity led is steady on most of the time and just blinking from time to time.

Hi,

after one more night now the activity leds are off. Apparently some processes probable need time to be finished.
