R720 HDD Firmware Update failure

I have an R720 that OMSA reported as a having a failing drive (HUS156060VLS600). I sourced a new drive swapped it over and rebuilt the array.

The firmware of the drive was 770 and after trying to update it to 820 the serial no and model no have both disappeared an the drive is still showing 770 as the version.

I have tried multiple firmware updates through different forms (IDRAC, bootable ISO) all of which show no update is required.

The replacement drive is the same make & model as the rest of the drives.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: R720 HDD Firmware Update failure

Spent2Much,

I would suggest trying the 774 update (https://dell.to/2u4WixD), then try the 820 (https://dell.to/2Ts04My) again. Also I would make sure that the server is up to date on BIOS, iDrac, Raid controller, as well as that you're using the latest version of OMSA.

Let me know how it goes.

Re: R720 HDD Firmware Update failure

Hi Chris,

It didn't work. The 3 new drives refuse to update. The 774 firmware didn't take.
Idrac/Bios/everything else is fully up to date.
Just these 3 drives that refuse to do anything - but they do work!
Any other ideas?
