Raid 5 HDD Replacement
Dear All,
I have a Dell Power Edge 2900 Server with five 146 GB, 10K, 3.5" HDD with Raid 5 configuration. Out of that one HDD is failed, so is it possible to replace the failed 146 GB HDD with a 300 GB or 600 GB HDD?

Hi there,
Yes, you can replace the failed 146GB HDD with a 300GB or 600GB hard drive, however you will not get any increased capacity doing this. Presuming that all 5 hard drives are in one RAID 5 array, you will only get 584GB capacity - this is because with all 5 hard drives, you get 4 x the capacity of the smallest hard drive, in this case 4 x 146GB.
