Re-flash PERC H700 Firmware from Adapter to Integrated Adapter?

Hello, We have several 1Gb H700 Adapter cards (not modular) that we would like to use in our R710’s and were wondering if they can be re-flashed with the “Integrated” adapter firmware? I believe the two cards are identical with the firmware being the only difference, adapters work in any PCIe slot while Integrated Adapters only work in the dedicated Internal Storage PCIe slot. We tried these cards in the R710’s and they get the error: “Invalid PCIe in the Internal storage slot! SYSTEM HALTED” .They work fine when tried in the other PCIe slots but the SAS cables don’t reach. I have tried to flash the cards with the Dell Integrated firmware via DOS boot USB but it can’t find the card in the PCIe slot and I can’t get past the System Halted message when trying the dedicated PCIe slot. Thanks, Glenn

hello,

I followed these instructions and it works great but it will only allow me to boot the system once.. If I reboot the system i get the "invalid pcie card in slot" error again. Even if I clear the Nvram and reboot I still get this error.

Any Ideas?

PDNEIMAN, did you use the another PC to reflash controller as instructions said? If you do this on dell server you cant modify spd/sbr and after reboot card is turn to original state.

Yes I followed the instructions and flashed the card on a different PC not a server.

What files are you trying to burn? My card has accepted only files from this post: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/906/p/19576911/20716247#20716247

Can you try to reboot this controller several times on your different PC and what version of firmware you see during BIOS POST?

Hi GWM210,

Sorry for replying to a post from last year, but would you please help me out by sending the SBR and SPD files for the H700 Internal card?

Thanks!

Jeff

How can you tell that you have the correct controller?

I have the T774H and I am trying to put it in a Dell T610 server to upgrade the controller that it came with.

I sure could use more help in betting this done.

Hi There,

I have around 7 x H700 cards from Dell Poweredge R410, but I can't use these cards in my my Dell R710 Servers. Can you help and explain how to change the firmware of these H700 cards, so that I can use in Dell Poweredge R710 or Dell Poweredge R610.

Thank YOU.

Arif

That info was great, thanks!

I am able to use: lspci -Dmmnn | grep LSI

To see that > "PERC H700 Adapter [1f16]" -- Adapter

Goes to > "PERC H700 Adapter [1f17]" -- Integrated (Also tried 1f1b)

But, when rebooting (with NVRAM pins shorted) I still get: "Invalid PCIe card found in the Internal Storage slot!" Should I be performing your steps on a separate machine and then transferring the PERC H700?

Any advice here would be greatly appreciated
